Jeffco GOP cancels Kristi Noem event amid dog-killing controversy

Jefferson County Republicans embraced the national furor over Governor Kristi Noem’s killing of a puppy, then backtracked citing "safety concerns."

Colorado's Jefferson County Governor Kristi Noem (R) of South Dakota has canceled her scheduled speech in Golden this week due to "safety concerns" raised by the public outcry over the death of a dog, according to event organizers.

On Saturday, Noem was supposed to be the main attraction at a fundraiser for the Republicans of Jefferson County. The group announced on social media early on Friday morning that the Denver West Marriott event had been canceled.

A Jeffco Republicans Facebook post said, in part, that "many threats and/or death threats have been made to our organization, the hotel, and to the Governor and her staff in the past few days." "The Denver West Marriott also received concerning remarks and expressed to us their serious concerns regarding the security and safety of our guests, other attendees, and their employees."

Bipartisan criticism of Noem's latest book, which asserts that murdering an unruly puppy was an indication of her leadership potential, has been directed at her across the country.

At first, Jeffco Republicans used the scandal to promote their fundraiser, stating that Noem "will share her perspective on the animal killings" at the dinner event and urging attendees not to miss it.

The information of the puppy's death came from Noem's upcoming book, "No Going Back," despite her calling the commotion "fake news."

The Republican vice presidential candidate related her experience of killing the dog, citing it as evidence of her ability to make difficult decisions.

A signed copy of the book was to be given to anyone who paid $2,750 for a VIP ticket to the Jefferson County GOP fundraiser. When 9NEWS inquired about whether refunds will be applied automatically or just in response to donors' requests for their money returned, Nancy Pallozzi, the president of Jeffco GOP, remained silent.

Noem calls the dog "untrainable" and "less than worthless" in passages from the book that The Guardian was able to get.

Noem recounts that after her dog, Cricket, destroyed her neighbor's hens, she shot it in the head near a gravel dump.

In her book, Noem also describes how she killed a goat that she called "nasty and mean." Noem states that she had to go for another shell in order to kill the injured goat because she was unable to kill it with the first shot.|

Alan Franklin, the political director of ProgressNow, pressed Pallozzi on Friday to provide proof for her claims.

Franklin wrote on X, "We of course neither condone nor have made any threats." "If Pallozzi has evidence to support her worthless allegations, release it."

Republicans in Jeffco insisted on holding the event as late as Wednesday, even in the face of mounting criticism of Noem's conduct and her decision to stand by them.

According to Jeffco Republicans, the reason the event's ticket access was deactivated on Thursday was because Wednesday was the last day to purchase tickets for the Saturday event, which took place.
